New to Euchre? You’re not alone. At Charleston Euchre Club, we welcome new players all the time — and most of them start the same way: learning by doing, asking questions, and making a few common mistakes along the way. Here are five of the biggest beginner mistakes we see — and how to avoid them. ♠️ 1. Not Following Suit If someone leads a suit and you have a card in that suit, you must play it. Forgetting to follow suit — even accidentally — is called a reneg and can result in a penalty. Before you play a card, always take a quick look through your hand to make sure you're following suit correctly. ♥️ 2. Forgetting the Left Bower Is Trump This is the most common beginner mistake in Euchre. The Jack of the same color as trump becomes the Left Bower and counts as trump. For example: If Spades are trump, the Jack of Clubs is also trump. If Hearts are trump, the Jack of Diamonds is also trump. Many new players forget this rule and accidentally play the Left Bower as its printed suit....
